Where is your clinic located?
All our assessments take place in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire. Our clinicians are able to offer therapeutic support both online and in-person, with clinic spaces in Welwyn Garden City and St Albans, Hertfordshire.
Are you able to offer an initial free telephone consultation?
We are able to offer a brief consultation (10/15 minute) prior to arranging the initial assessment. This is to get an overview of difficulties and to discuss what we may be able to offer.
Do you offer online appointments or face to face?
Our contact can be online or in person. We understand it is important for people to be able to access support in a way they feel most comfortable and therefore both online or in-person appointments are available (Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire based).
Is the information I provide confidential?
We have a legal and professional responsibility to protect the confidentiality of clients at all times.
However, in some circumstances if we felt there was a risk to you or someone else it may be necessary to disclose confidential information. We would inform you if we felt such circumstances arise and only if there was imminent risk might we need to make the decision without consulting you first.
Do you have a privacy policy?
Yes, in line with data protection we have a full privacy policy. Terms and conditions including details of confidentiality and data protection are provided from our first point of contact.
What happens If I cannot attend a scheduled appointment?
Please contact us as soon as you are aware. We understand that unexpected events can occur and that you may need to cancel or reschedule an appointment.
Unfortunately, appointments cancelled at less than 48 hours’ notice will be charged the full fee. This is as we will be unlikely to offer the appointment slot to another client within that time frame.
Each client will be provided with the full terms and conditions prior to engaging with the service and will be required to confirm agreement.
What happens if I need crisis support?
If you are in need of urgent support or feel you are in crisis please contact your GP, 111 or A&E if it is an emergency. You can also find NHS crisis support in your area by visiting www.nhs.uk/service-search/mental-health/find-an-urgent-mental-health-helpline.
We do not offer urgent support and am unable to accept clients with higher levels of risk including those experiencing chronic suicidal thoughts or individuals currently self-harming.
Do you accept healthcare insurance?
We are not currently registered with any healthcare insurers and accept self-funding referrals only. Payment is accepted via bank transfer.
Will my Autism or ADHD assessment be recognised by the NHS or education services?
All of the assessments we offer follow the standards published by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) to provide comprehensive assessments. Diagnostic reports written by specialty trained and experienced healthcare professionals are provided and there is no reason that a good quality assessment and diagnosis should not be recognised. Schools should try to implement any recommendations made in the report in line with their SEN policy, although the resources at the school can be a limiting factor.
Do you use the QBcheck as part of your ADHD assessments?
A QBcheck is a 15-20 minute computer based task that combines a Continuous Performance Task (CPT) with motion tracking to objectively measure the three core symptoms of ADHD; activity, attention and impulsivity and provide a likelihood for ADHD.
All of our child assessments include the administration of a QBCheck.
For adult assessments, if third-party information is not available, or conflicting, or if we require further information to support the diagnostic assessment, the completion of a QBCheck test may be recommended by our clinic. This will be charged at £250 per test in addition to the assessment price and would always be discussed with you directly if required.
What happens after an Autism/ADHD diagnosis?
Individuals will feel differently in relation to a confirmed diagnosis. For some, they may want to take time to process and digest or will find benefit from the diagnosis itself.
We provide post-diagnostic support to adults and young people with a diagnosis of ADHD and/or Autism. This may include what it means to have a diagnosis of ADHD and/or Autism and the ways in which this has impacted on your life. Additional coping strategies utilising coaching and/or therapeutic approaches can be explored to support individuals in understanding the strengths and as well as the challenges associated with Autism and ADHD.
Anxiety, low mood, emotional dysregulation can be common experiences for individuals with ADHD and/or Autism. We use formulation-based approach to understanding and addressing symptoms of ADHD/Autism and co-occurring conditions. Therapeutic approaches that can be helpful and effective are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness-based Approaches, and Compassion Focused Therapy.
What if I want to consider ADHD medication following a diagnosis?
If following an ADHD diagnosis, you or your child would like to pursue medication as a treatment option, we have good links with Specialist nurse prescribers and Pharmacist prescribers who we signpost to discuss medication options. Separate fees are chargeable for this follow-on treatment and payable directly.
You may wish to choose to access medication from mainstream NHS services. Most NHS trusts will have waiting lists for treatment in addition to the waiting lists for diagnostic assessments. It is important to note that a private ADHD diagnosis will not lead to prioritisation in NHS services. Some individuals may initially access medication treatment via the private sector and once stable on medication, request to be transferred to you GP under a ‘Shared care protocol’. You may want to make an appointment with you GP to discuss and understand local options available via the NHS.
